15 Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard, 16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in.
17 “You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” she asked Peter.
He replied, “I am not.”
18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.
Personal Reflection and Discussion
- Who is someone you consider to be loyal? How is that loyalty demonstrated?
- Why do you think the disciples were following Jesus? What did they hope to accomplish?
- What are some possibilities of why Peter denied being a disciple?
- What is the difference in Peter here (v 17) and in the garden (18:10)? Why the change?
- How can we demonstrate loyalty even in the face of adversity?
Jesus, forgive me when I waver, when my inner Peter comes out. Thank you that you assure me that even when I waver, you love me and you restore my relationship with you. Amen.

Family Engagement Activity
Today, thank a friend for being loyal to you! Identify the groups of people that everyone hangs out with. In what groups is it more difficult to talk about your encounters with Christ and why? Consider allowing those who haven’t met Christ, to meet Him through you this month.
Have your family draw pictures or write down five famous duos on notecards (Batman and Robin, peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, Woody and Buzz, etc.) and play a matching game to find the matching partners.
Come up with tasks for each pair to accomplish in the family, and tell them they must link arms to do them together. Reward them with a treat for a completed list. Discuss how it is not always easy to stick together with someone, but loyalty has its rewards!
Make a PBJ, but have one person be the arms (blindfold them) and the other the eyes (make sure they can’t use their hands). You can have the arms person be behind the eyes person.
Talk about loyalty.
